Scapa 100 Conference
2019 is the centenary of the Scuttling of the German High Seas Fleet in Scapa Flow, Orkney. As part of the Orkney wide Scapa 100 commemorations, Stromness Museum is holding a conference to look at its lasting legacy, and how it has shaped the present day. The conference will be held in Stromness, Orkney from the 17th – 20th October 2019.
This three day conference will comprise papers, workshops/events, evening lectures and fieldtrips. Papers of relevance to the following three themes are invited:
- Salvage. Talks about the salvaging of the fleet and the development of the diving industry.
- Scapa now: heritage management. Talks about the diving industry, museums and cultural heritage management.
- Scapa’s natural history. Talks about the flora and fauna living on and around the wrecks, and their contribution to biological diversity in Orcadian waters.
Full written texts will be due for submission after the conference.
