L-R: Tom Anderson & The Very Rev. Dr. George F. MacLeod on Hoy, September 1960. Dr. MacLeod, convenor of the Church of Scotland's National Church extension appeal was opening a national appeal 'Operation Last Lap' in Orkney. Aimed at wiping out the Church Extension committee's debt of £300,000, it was calculated that if every church member paid 5 shillings the debt would be paid. To aid the churches in collecting the money Dr. MacLeod delivered envelopes for all the members to put the money in.Tom was a farmer at Veval, Graemsay, before moving to Dundas Street, Stromness, and taking up lobster fishing. He also took part in a marathon walk from John o' Groats to Lands End. See Orcadian 15/9/1960, page 3.
